The Scar Healing Project was created to support individuals living with scars that have impacted their confidence, identity, or sense of self. This initiative offers one complimentary medical scar camouflage treatment each month to someone in our community who may not otherwise have access to care.

This is about healing — not erasing.

My Why

As a Registered Nurse with a background in wound healing and scar management, I have seen firsthand how scars can affect more than just the skin.

This project exists to give back to the community that supports Aesthetics By Kristen, by offering compassionate, ethical, and evidence-informed scar camouflage to those who need it most.

What Is Medical Scar Camouflage?

Medical scar camouflage is a specialised form of medical tattooing designed to blend scar tissue with the surrounding skin tone.

It may help improve the appearance of:

  • Surgical scars

  • Traumatic or injury-related scars

  • Scars from medical conditions

  • Healed self-harm scars

Each treatment is carefully customised based on skin tone, scar maturity, and individual suitability.

Results vary and depend on scar type, skin response, and aftercare.

What the Project Includes

Selected applicants will receive:

✔️ A comprehensive one-on-one consultation
✔️ A personalised scar camouflage treatment
✔️ A follow-up session to refine results
✔️ Detailed aftercare and ongoing support

All treatments are performed in a clinical environment with a strong focus on safety, consent, and care.

How Selection Works

One applicant is selected each month

  • Applications are reviewed with privacy and respect

  • Selection is based on:

    • Suitability for scar camouflage

    • The personal impact of the scar

    • Individual circumstances and story

All applicants are treated with sensitivity and confidentiality.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply, you must:

  • Be 18 years or older

  • Have a scar that is at least 12 months old

  • Be able to attend appointments at Aesthetics By Kristen, Wollongong

  • Be medically suitable for treatment

  • Be willing to share your story (anonymously if preferred)
